Cheltenham RSL & Bentleigh RSL gluten free menus
The bistros at both the Cheltenham RSL and Bentleigh RSL have been accredited by Coeliac Australia. The restaurant manager of both sites has a son with coeliac disease, so understands the need for safe practices in the kitchen and staff training.

50 Acres at Cheltenham RSL
These two Melbourne RSLs have a gluten free menu (with several pages of options!) and although the menus are similar, there are some variations between the sites. They both have ‘pub favourites’ like burgers and chicken parmigiana. You can check them online before you visit and there is also a seniors’ and kids’ section within the menu.
At Cheltenham I chose the Nasi Goring which was a good size and had quite a bit of chilli which was nice and warming on a cold Melbourne day. My husband chose the bangers and mash which was a great winter warmer and a typical English pub meal which my English husband loved.
At Bentleigh, I tried the gluten free burger as I knew lots of people would go for this. I really enjoyed the flavours of the egg and the sauce and the bun didn’t fall apart, which is pretty good for gluten free!
From the normal menu, my dad enjoyed the seafood risotto which was a generous size and had lots of seafood (there is a gap as he had already started eating when I remembered to take the photo).
One thing I noted at both sites, is that the salt and pepper on the tables had ‘may contain gluten’ statements on them.
Both sites have cake for dessert, most of which are gluten free. We have been too full to sample these, so might have to go for afternoon tea one day!
When we visited 50 Acres for lunch on a weekend, it was very busy with families and couples. I visited Bentleigh on a week day and it was still quite busy, so it is recommended to book for both sites.
As with all RSLs do you need to sign in or have your license scanned, so remember to take ID with you. I noticed a function room at Cheltenham that had its own bar, so that would be a good option if you have a big group for a celebration.
You may also be interested in the Box Hill RSL which also has many gluten free options.
