Gluten free in Wollongong

GF Eats is a 100% gluten free cafe in Bellambi, a northern suburb of Wollongong in New South Wales. If you don’t live nearby, it is a great stop over if driving between Melbourne and Sydney.

We actually stayed in the area on our road trip specifically to go to GF Eats for breakfast to fill up before spending the day driving to Melbourne. There is casual seating inside the cafe as well as some tables inside.

Instinctively you will go to the cake cabinet to peruse the lovely looking offerings there and you also make your food order at this counter.

I couldn’t go past the opportunity to have a donut, so I took one away for later. I warmed it in the microwave and it was delicious!

The breakfast menu has traditional options such as avocado on toast or scrambled eggs but also includes treats such as waffles.

My husband enjoyed the granola and it looked so pretty with the berries on top.

I love a toastie, so chose the roasted vegetable panini (capsicum, eggplant, cheese, spinach). If you are vegan or lactose free, there is the option to have vegan yoghurt or cheese or lactose free cheese.

The lunch menu has some hard to find gluten free items, such as chicken schnitzel, fried chicken bites, a roll or a pie.  Low FODMAP sausage rolls are also available. Fish and chips is also available on the weekend.

Takeaway (Friday & Saturday night)

Open from 5.30-7.30pm on Friday and Saturday nights, you can swing by and not have to worry about cooking! The takeaway menu is similar to the lunch menu but also includes waffles.

Frozen food and groceries

If you live locally, there are plenty of frozen sweet or savoury goodies that you can buy to take home (including cinnamon scrolls, quiche, pies, dumplings and ice cream).

You can also stock up on gluten free flour mixes, granola and a small amount of other groceries and snacks.

While we were there, plenty of locals were popping in to pick up a treat, including orders for parties (they cater for for both adult and kids parties).

I wish I lived closer so I could try more of the menu but they will definitely be on my list for our next road trip or holiday in the area.
