Gluten free pancakes in Melbourne
Pancakes and crêpes are one of my favourite foods, so this post is a quick run down on where to find gluten free pancakes in Melbourne – please add your suggestions in the comments at the bottom of the page.
You will find pancakes made out of traditional ingredients, as well as alternatives such as buckwheat, banana flour and coconut flour.
Mediterraneo – Albert Park.
The crêpe suzette on their dessert menu is divine! Coeliac Australia accredited.
Roule Galette – Melbourne CBD and Carnegie
I’m still to visit, but I believe they have a separate cooking plate for gluten free and this on the menu gives some confidence! Just double check things like ham and icing sugar.
Rue de Creperie – Fitzroy
Their buckwheat crepes are gluten free and the menu is marked up with the gluten free options. I have only been when they are not busy and asked if they can take extra care with clean hotplate etc.
Breizoz Creperie – Fitzroy
Their buckwheat crepes can be used for a sweet or savoury topping – just check re clean hot plate etc. I have been a number of times, but have dug in too quickly to take a photo!
Cafe Henkel – Brunswick
This 100% gluten free cafe have pancakes on their menu!
Serotonin – Richmond
Made out of banana flour and served with banana ‘nice cream’, these gluten free pancakes are also vegan. Most of the menu is gluten free so there is less risk of cross contamination here. (NB Not open Mon/Tue, so not open for Shrove Tuesday).

Mr Black Juicery, Berwick
No need to worry about cross contamination here as they are 100% gluten free! These buckwheat pancakes are also dairy free (cocowhip ice-cream) and with fruit all around the base, you can mix up the flavours.
The Pancake Parlour – various locations
The Pancake Parlour has ‘gluten friendly‘ options on their menu and I haven’t eaten there as I feel the risk of cross contamination is too high (I have heard that there isn’t a dedicated GF cook plate or utensils), but if you are not a coeliac, it could be a good option.
If you also would like to have some crepes ready in the freezer for when a craving strikes, check out Nanna’s gluten free crepes available at Woolworths and other supermarkets.
