Harry’s fish and chips, Blackburn South
Gluten free fish and chips in Blackburn South, Melbourne
Harry’s Fish & Chips is in a tiny strip of shops on Middleborough Road (corner Eley Road), Blackburn South and has a fantastic gluten free menu.
The main menu is on the wall but you will find the gluten free menu on the counter – nearly everything is available gluten free and great care is taken with separate grill plates and fryers. I have been at quiet times and have felt very comfortable that my food was prepared safely.
I have sampled the battered fish and potato cakes as well as the souvlaki, which were all fantastic. They also have salads, burgers, dim sims (meat and vegetarian), sausage in batter, a kids’ pack and more!
You can see the menu on Zomato. The prices for gluten free are a little more expensive (around 50 cents to $1 extra per item).
There is a range of ‘8 Food’ gluten free sauces on the counter (e.g. tartare, tomato sauce). These are are great size for travelling and I bought a couple of extras to take home.
Harry’s is mainly a takeaway shop but there are a couple of tables both inside and out if you want to eat in. It is just down the road from the Burwood RSPCA and the new Brickworks shopping centre, or a short drive from Box Hill and Deakin Uni.
