Holbeck Ghyll – Lake District gluten free fine dining

Holbeck Ghyll is a country house in Windemere, one of the key towns in the Lake District.  The Lake District is a hugely popular tourist destination for the Brits in the summer season, but it is also lovely to visit out of season as there are fewer people around.

Holbeck Ghyll has accommodation as well as a fine dining restaurant, set in a lovely country location with views over Lake Windermere.   (Note:  there is a reason there are a lot of lakes here – it rains a lot, so go prepared!)

The dining room is quite intimate and has a lovely view over the lake if you are staying overnight and having breakfast in the morning,

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal that had a few tweaks to ensure it was gluten free.  The service and presentation was top notch.

We stayed and dined one night at the end of 2013 for our wedding anniversary when the restaurant still had its Michelin star.  We were lucky to just get one night as their accommodation and dinner inclusive bookings require a two night booking, but some last minute deals are available for one night.  As we booked only two weeks in advance and our anniversary fell on a Sunday, we were lucky to be able to stay for just one night.

The cost in 2013 for a fell view room and dinner and breakfast was £300 for two people.
