Gluten free tapas at La Tasca
La Tasca is a chain of Spanish Tapas restaurants in London and around the UK. La Tasca now have Coeliac UK accreditation (October 2013) and the menu has plenty of gluten free options. Spanish cuisine lends itself to being gluten free, as like other Mediterranean countries, the food is fresh and unprocessed.
La Tasca was one of the first places I ate gluten free when I arrived in London and even before accreditation with Coeliac UK, they were offering gluten free options. As around 50% of the menu is gluten free (all clearly marked), you can easily share a tapas meal with your gluten-eating friends without anyone feeling like they are missing out. They also offer gluten free beer.
We decided to go for the “award-winning gluten-free selection” for two people – it saved making decisions and all of the dishes that make it up sounded appealing.
We added a bread starter (these are Newburns Bakehouse white wraps), which is served with some olive oil mixed with balsamic vinegar.
The gluten free selection was made up of: chorizo (yum!), Spanish omelette (absolutely delicious), a large green salad, manchego cheese with sundried tomatoes, paella of the day (ours was chicken and prawn) and chicken breast with vegetables. This was plenty for two for lunch and it was a very enjoyable meal.
If you are a gluten free vegetarian, there were 4 options for starters and 5 options on the main menu.
There is also a separate Dessert Menu, which has some delicious sounding options – if you are too full after lunch, I think they could be a fantastic afternoon tea option!
Click here for La Tasca locations and menus. I noticed when looking at their website, that they also have 5 locations in the USA, in the Washington DC metro area, and their menus also had GF marked up which is useful to know if you are travelling to the States.
Central London La Tasca restaurants are listed in my London restaurant listing on the Restaurant List page. To find out more about other chains offering gluten free options, see my post on UK gluten free chains.
