La Tortilleria – 100% gluten free Mexican in Kensington
La Tortilleria in Kensington, Melbourne, is a cafe style venue serving up authentic gluten free Mexican food. It is not a place you are likely to just wander past, as it is located in a largely industrial area along Stubbs Street.
I knew about La Tortilleria as they are on the Melbourne 100% gluten free listing but only got to visit when I was in the area after taking my dog to the nearby Advanced Vet Care emergency vet. What a relief to be able to get a safe meal while my mind was full of worry for my pooch.
Their focus is on their own tortillas, which are pure corn with a little added salt. Their tortillas are so popular they are even sold in their on site grocery shop (as well as elsewhere).
Don’t be fooled by the size of the shop as you enter as there are more tables through the back. We went on a Monday night and were lucky to get a table, so it is probably a good idea to book in advance.
The bill for two, including a drink each came to $54.50, which I thought was pretty reasonable. If you are looking for gluten free Mexican in Kensington, then it is definitely worth stopping by La Tortilleria.
If you are driving, it is just a few minutes from the Racecourse Road exit on Citylink (M2). By public transport, it is a 7 minute walk from Macaulay station or a 9 minute walk from Kensington station.
