Liberate gluten free crumpets
Gluten free crumpets are hard to get right but these crumpets from Liberate foods have won gold & sliver awards in the UK free from world and are very close to a traditional crumpet.
Endorsed by Coeliac Australia and Coeliac New Zealand, they are available to purchase in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and Singapore (see more on this at the end of the post).
I find I need to toast them twice to get them to the texture I like and then smother them in butter, followed by a spread, which for me is a gluten free marmite or honey.
As you can see, they are quite small and square in size, so you will probably want two! The picture at the right was from a cafe in Hampton (Melbourne) where they toast them safely for you. They were served upside down, which I didn’t realise at first as I had never seen them before!
The above sign is a bit hard to read but the crumpets are allergy friendly as they are also egg free, wheat free, dairy free, soy free, tree nut free and low FODMAP, with no added preservatives.
As they are made in New Zealand, if you purchase in the southern hemisphere, they are not ‘thawed for your convenience’ and you can freeze them. The packet suggests storing them in the fridge when you bring them home from the shop.
See the Liberate website for full details on where to buy, but this summary will get you started!
UK – online
Australia – Coles supermarkets in Australia (usually with the GF bread) or online stores such as GF Pantry. In Melbourne there are several stockists, such as Sunnybrook Health Store and Gluten Free Foods in Mornington.
New Zealand – online or in the freezer section in some of the below stores:
New World (most South Island stores, coming to North Island soon)
Pak n Save, Fresh Choice and Four Square stores
