Marie Anita’s 100% gluten free cafe, Gold Coast

Marie Anita’s is a lovely entirely gluten free café and bakery in Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast.  Mermaid Beach is  just 15 minutes drive from Surfers Paradise, so worth a trip if you are holidaying locally.

It is a daytime café offering breakfast, lunch as well as coffee and cake.  The menu is available online and is designed to be nutritious (e.g.buckwheat pancakes instead of plain flour), largely plant based, as well as taste great!

Along with everything being gluten free, the food is refined sugar free, largely organic and dairy free. They specialise in dietary requirements (e.g. vegan, raw etc) and as the sign says below, just have a chat to them about your requirements.

I could only briefly stop whilst driving through and had a delicious vegetarian savoury pastry warmed up to eat in the car. I’m pretty sure others wouldn’t have been able to tell it was gluten free!

While I was waiting for my takeaway (this took a little bit of time as they do not use microwaves), I saw some meals come out which looked great and were generous serves.

Indoors there are several tables for groups as well as two for couples.  Outside in the back garden there are plenty more tables and lots of space if you’ve got kids who need to run around or have your dog with you.

Marie Anita’s is a fabulous part of the Queensland gluten free scene. I’m disappointed I didn’t have time to have a full meal, so are on my list for my next visit to Queensland. Also look out for the Gluten Free 4U bakery in Mermaid Waters.
