Melbourne’s gluten free donut explosion!
When I was first diagnosed with coeliac disease, doughnuts / donuts became a distant memory. Now we have sooo many options for gluten free donuts in Melbourne with freshly cooked donuts available at markets, donut shops that are open 24/7 and several gluten free bakeries around town producing cinnamon, jam and iced donuts.
This post covers Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula (last updated Jan 2022).

OMG Decadent Donuts Melbourne
Gluten free and vegan donuts dusted with real fruits, nuts and spices. At markets and events around Melbourne (and Victoria) – check out their social media pages for where they will be. Again, I just love the plain cinnamon ones! Often at Nunawading market, markets around the Mornington Peninsula and Flemington farmers market. This franchise is also in Queensland.

To me you can’t beat a warm cinnamon donut! They are gluten free and vegan and also have other toppings for a small extra cost. Follow on social media for markets, pop up shops or when they are delivering to certain areas. They have previous at Victoria Gardens in Richmond, Thornbury Food Truck park, Hank Marvin Market in St Kilda East and Brighton East, Hastings).

Donut shops
Daniels Donuts – City, Springvale, Carnegie, Highpoint, Point Cook, Portarlington
These products are baked off site and stored in plastic to prevent cross contamination (believed to be Heaven’s Bakehouse, mentioned below in the bakery section). GF donuts are certainly at Springvale, city, Hightpoint and Carnegie stores – possibly all stores! The city site is the only place I know in central Melbourne offering a gluten free donut.

Donuts at supermarkets
Noshu
Often found at Woolworths, Coles Express & independent supermarkets, Noshu donuts have a variety of flavours. They are more like a cake but have no added sugar free and are baked, not fried, so a little kinder to the waistline. They are stored in the fridge section. I quite like the caramel spice one after a light microwave to make it taste a bit fluffier.
A variety of brands
A variety of brands from gluten free bakeries are available frozen at Sunnybrook Health Store in Ormond and Gluten Free Foods in Mornington (and probably many IGA supermarkets too).
