Soul Food gluten free cafe in Wanaka, New Zealand

Gluten free in Wanaka, New Zealand south island

Soul Food is a health food store and 100% gluten free cafe in Wanaka on the west coast of New Zealand.  Wanaka is a one hour drive from Queenstown which made it a great breakfast stop off for us en route to Franz Joseph Glacier.

I was pleased to see the sign at the cafe saying they have an entirely gluten free kitchen!

The menu is on the blackboard above the counter where you order, and there is a cabinet of cakes and other meals.  Follow them on Facebook to see what is on offer.

I love pancakes, so there was no question of having the buckwheat pancakes! The serve was enormous and could quite easily be shared between two. It was absolutely delicious with lots of fruit and cream to keep the pancakes moist.

My husband enjoyed his granola with coconut cream and coconut milk (other dairy free milks were available, such as soy or almond milk). There is a variety of hot and cold drinks, but I can’t go past a freshly squeezed juice.

A small section of the shop is set aside with tables to eat from and there are also tables outside in the garden. There is a good range of cakes and bliss balls if you just want a snack. We took away a chocolate and pear muffin which we enjoyed for afternoon tea while on the road.

We found Soul Food a lovely stop off for gluten free in Wanaka. There is a beautiful lake nearby which would be a nice spot to have your coffee and cake while taking in the mountains.
