Living and travelling gluten free in the UK, Australia & around the world!

The Criterion, Piccadilly

The Criterion has been on the London restaurant scene for nearly 150 years and the interior does feel like you are walking into another world with its opulent old world charm.

As it is so close to Piccadilly Circus, it is ideal for a pre-theatre meal. The menu is described as ‘modern European’ and there is a set menu option which is a reasonable price.  When I visited it was two courses for £20 or three courses for £25.  You can also find deals though restaurant booking sites (eg Book a Table),such as £25 for 3 courses and a bellini.

The wait staff were very helpful in deciding on a gluten free option.  I chose the buffalo mozzarella to start, and the chicken on a potato puree with broccoli for my main. Both meals were simple, but delicious.

The petit fours at the end of the meal were lovely sweet treats and naturally gluten free!  I particularly loved the honeycomb as it reminded me of an Aussie treat called Violet Crumble (honeycomb covered in chocolate), which has unfortunately been off limits since I’ve been gluten free.
