The Oxford Place – gluten free restaurant in Leeds, UK

Gluten free restaurant in Leeds, UK

The Oxford Place is a 100% gluten free restaurant in Leeds and is a fabulous place for coeliacs and also those not needing a gluten free diet.

It has a nice cosy atmosphere and mostly has tables for two and four but I’m sure could take larger groups.

We drove around one hour to Leeds from Manchester to have a late lunch as I had heard great things about The Oxford Place!

You can see the menus online (link below), with a lighter lunch menu or a la carte menu. A light lunch might be a soup, sandwich or avocado on toast with a poached egg and main meals include items such as steak, pork belly, pie, fish & chips, salad, gnocchi and a burger (meat or veggie). The menu itself doesn’t state that everything is gluten free but it does clearly state this online. There is also a Coeliac UK accreditation sticker on the window.

The dessert menu is separate and if I had been on the ball, I probably would have asked to see the dessert menu when we were looking at the main menu to decide whether to have a starter and a main or a main and dessert (you will know why later!).

There was a substantial wine list but I did not notice any gluten free beers on the menu.

To start, my husband had the goat’s cheese and wild mushroom tart which looked so pretty and he said it was excellent. I had the tempura fried vegetables with sweet chilli dipping sauce. The batter was light and crispy and the accompanying green salad was refreshing and offset the fried food nicely.

For my main meal, I chose the chicken, mushroom and bacon pot pie, with a pastry lid. The flavours in the filling were great, with a touch of herbs and spices. There was a good amount of chicken and mushroom and it filled me up so much there was unfortunately no room for dessert! The fries were nice and crispy and were also a good sized serving.

My husband chose the sausages and root vegatable mash in vegetable gravy, which tasted great.

The dessert menu has one of my favourites, sticky toffee pudding! Alas, my stomach had no room after two courses. Also on offer were things such as cheese, cheesecake, tiramisu and other tarts.

The restaurant is located in the centre of Leeds and is probably only a 15 minute walk from the main shops. It is a short work from the train station and there is street parking out the front of the restaurant.

I would highly recommend visiting The Oxford Place for a fabulous gluten free meal in Leeds.
