The Victoria Hotel, Port Fairy

100% gluten free food in Port Fairy

Towards the end of the Great Ocean Road is the lovely historic village of Port Fairy, just past Warnambool. Port Fairy has always been quite good for catering for gluten free, but coeliacs can feel completely safe at 100% gluten free The Victoria Hotel, affectionately known as ‘The Vic’.

The Vic is right in the centre of town on the corner of Bank Street and James Street.and it is worth booking, particularly around public and school holidays.

The menu

The menu is traditional pub fare, such as steak, fish and chips, chicken parma, soup and a roll etc. The dessert menu is extensive, including sticky date pudding, churros and apple crumble. You can find the menu on their Facebook page and specials are also available.

The food menu went 100% gluten free at the end of December 2019 but note that not all drinks are gluten free (gluten free beer is available). They also have plenty of dairy free and vegan options, as well as a kid’s menu.

The food

The main thing to say about the food is that the serves are huge, so make sure you go hungry. The first time we went we had a starter and a main and the second time, a main and dessert as three courses was just impossible to fit in!

We all loved the cheese and garlic pizza as an entree, including the non GF people. Sadly we tucked in before I thought to take a photo!

The squid/calamari is available in entree size (as below) or as a main.

The main meals were all enjoyable and the gallery below shows the chicken schnitzel with gravy and fish & chips both battered and grilled.

For a coeliac, a huge choice of desserts is amazing. I was completely torn by the fabulous options but my favourite sticky toffee pudding won in the end and it didn’t disappoint!

To find 100% gluten free food in Port Fairy is just amazing and a highly recommend you visit. Our food bill for four people was $117 which is pretty reasonable.  Just don’t leave your booking until too late in the evening as the kitchen closes earlier than Melbournites might expect.
