UK 100% gluten free – East Anglia

Welcome to this series of posts aiming to capture all the 100% gluten free venues in the UK.  This post covers East Anglia gluten free, at this stage only  Norfolk and Suffolk have 100% gluten free venues.

The criteria I used for inclusion, was that the business has to be:

  • 100% gluten free (ie no cross contamination risk), and
  • have its own outlet that you can visit, such as a shop, café or a stall at a market.

Cafe Jungle (Norwich)

Cafe Jungle is a 100% gluten-free cafe located in a tropical glasshouse at the fabulous Urban Jungle Plant Nursery. Comfortable sofas, tables and chairs are totally embraced by exuberant leafy plants – it really is a café in a jungle!

Enjoy a coffee and cake, a platter to share, a wholesome lunch or a fabulous indulgent afternoon tea (please book in advance for afternoon tea).  The menu is available online. Vegetarian options available.

Norfolk Gluten Freedom  (Norwich)

Nofolk Gluten Freedom Logo 2_optWe bring together everything that is great about being Gluten Free in Norfolk. We run food events, arrange networking, give advice and raise awareness.  The Norfolk Gluten Freedom Expo gives local producers to showcase their gluten free goodies.  There will also be talks and seminars on the gluten free diet.

Expo usually held at The Forum, Norwich, Norfolk.

Doors will be opening from 10am until 4pm, with cookery demonstrations inside, and talks in the auditorium throughout the day. There will also be opportunities for the trade to network, meet the producers, and source local ingredients.  There will be street food and a BBQ, ready to eat goodies and delicious treats to take away.

On sale will be amazing artisan breads, cakes, cookies, chutney, cereals, honey, beer, cider, cooking sauces, pies, flour, store cupboard ingredients, quiches, make-up, beauty products and much more.  Exhibitors include The Gluten Free shop (see entry above).  There will also be health experts and organisations offering support and advice.

Kind Food  (Norwich – City Centre/Poringland/Costessey/Loddon; North Norfolk – North Walsham)

Kind Food are a small friendly family business based just outside of Norwich. All  products are vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free, and all handmade in a dedicated gluten free and dairy free kitchen.

They produce a selection of sweet and savoury baked goods, chocolate and fudge and can be found a markets as listed below and various regional food fairs such as the Norwich show.   Various products are also available in some local stores, such as Norfolk farm shop at Taverham Garden Centre.  You can pre-order for collection at the Norwich Market or delivery is possible to the local area or via Royal Mail.  To keep up to date, please follow on Facebook and Twitter @norfolkkindfood.

Dedicated gluten free home based kitchen producing sweet & savoury products eg cakes, puddings, tarts, pies, gnocchi, scotch eggs, sausage & vegetarian rolls.  Some items also dairy free.

Purchase at regular markets (check Facebook or Twitter @gloriousfodder to confirm attendance) or via online shop for delivery or collection.
