Yarralicious gluten free cafe [closed]
April 2019 update: the cafe has closed its doors. The owners are planning to attend farmers markets.
Yarralicious is a friendly family run cafe that is also 100% gluten free. It is in Warrandyte South, which is 25 kilometers north east of the Melbourne city centre and it makes a perfect stop off when heading to or from the Yarra Valley winery region.
The cafe is a main road so it is very easy to locate. The cafe is relaxed and cosy with a mixture of table sizes. There is also the option of eating in the outside area which is lovely if the sun is out (and great if you have your dog with you).

On entering, you can see the display cabinet with a large array of cakes and biscuits that are available. There are also loaves of bread from GF Precinct and Gluten Free 4 U.
Something Savoury
The blackboard menu for breakfast and lunch meals is on the display cabinet and changes regularly and seasonally. It is a small menu, but even so it was hard to choose as all the options sounded so lovely. The staff were very friendly and happy to explain the options to us.
Below was a delicious and filling quinoa pumpkin salad with some added chicken. As I was in a gluten free venue, I also wanted to have some bread (a rare treat with a meal) and they were happy to add some to my order.
My husband chose the sausage roll with pistachios which I thought was an inventive twist to bring some extra nutrition to a regular sausage roll. He thought it was lovely and as good as a gluten containing equivalent.
We have both really enjoyed the coconut chicken pasta, which has a lovely hint of chilli.
We usually visit in the summer and sit outside with our dog, but I have also been to meet friends there in winter and the menu changes accordingly to have more winter warmers.
Something Sweet
You of course cannot leave without having a cake! There is a good variety of options on offer, with something to suit every taste.
One December, they had mini Christmas cupcakes (bottom left) and I have to say it was amazing! Just a perfect size and mix of flavours. I kept the chocolate, almond, orange and walnut mini cake (bottom right) for the next day which was also very enjoyable.
It is wonderful as a coeliac to be able to relax in a 100% gluten free environment. I’m keen to visit again and try some more menu items!
